Some simple rules:

Basin Diameter

Simplex (One Pump)-24” Minimum Diameter
Duplex (Two Pumps)-36” Minimum Diameter For 2” Discharge PumpsDuplex (Two Pumps)-48” Minimum Diameter For 3” Discharge PumpsDuplex (Two Pumps)-60” Minimum Diameter For 4” Discharge Pumps
Reason: There will be enough room for the pump(s), piping, valves, and fittings.

Basin Height

General Rule-Gallons Per Minute X 4 ≤ Basin Total Gallons

Reasons:
There will be enough room to set the float switches for proper pump cycle time.
The “Off” float will keep the pump fully submerged at all times.
The “High Level Alarm” float will be under the inlet.
There will be “storage space” during a break down situation. (Gives you time toget the basin manually pumped out before it leaks out the top.)
Room at the top for the electrical conduit, float bracket, base elbow/guide rail extension handle, etc.
